New York Times article on the redevelopment of Pittsburgh’s East End, noting highly of Google’s new offices in Bakery Square

Today is a sad day in Squirrel Hill as it was announced that the Squirrel Hill Theater that has been a neighborhood landmark for nearly 75 years will be closing. The theatre has been facing hard economic times and could not compete with the competition of newer theaters. There is some hope that the theatre could continue to serve for specialized films, and the owner is exploring other possible solutions for using its other screens.
The Post-Gazette did a great article on the situation, and expect an ad in tomorrows paper thanking all those who have supported the theater.
Bike PGH reports that thanks to some organized local cyclists we can all now commute over the Hot Metal Bridge. Until this past weekend the bridge was still covered in snow and untouched by the city. Pittsburgh truly is becoming a dedicated biking city and not even some SNOWMAGEDDON snow can get in the way.
Below are the before and after shots of the bridge.

Ryan Malone (seen in the middle) has been doing great things for the US hockey team. Tonight he faces Crosby and Canada, for most Pittsburghers they are rooting for the local kid and USA.
When most Pittsburghers were home bound from snowmageddon a group of friends hit the snow to create an amazing video (filmed by native Colin Sander) of snowboarding and skiing around town. Most notable location is the side of Mt. Washington by the Mon incline. Can’t wait to see what these guys do next snowfall.
